Hand Carved Emu Eggs
Barry Ballotti
Barry Bellotti from Carnarvon is known as a carver of emu eggs.
To prepare an egg for carving he marks out the ground with tape and sandpapers until he can pencil in the design.
There are more than a dozen layers from dark to lighter tones to access and he works with home made tools fashioned from steel, with an edge constantly honed on a sharpening stone.
Barry’s work is collected by locals, and those beyond who are lucky enough to
come across it.
